I would suggest VistaManager by YamicSoft.
It has its own services screen with in-depth information, it gives the services's function & how & why you need it, and the option to turn it off. I used its shareware version & was very useful. By the time it expired, i know which services I need to dis/enable as well as why & when.
This Site also helped a lot (Vista Service Guide).
Here's another very good page about Vista services and which ones it is safe to disable.
